Reinhard Lakomy (DDR)



A talented DDR keyboard player who had his own rock band in the 1970's, but became best-known as a synthesist who came to prominence after Tangerine Dream's concert at the Palast Der Republik in East Berlin 1980.

His started in the 1960's with The Berolinas, with Bernd Emich (bass), Reinhard Lakomy (organ), Hansi Biebl (guitar) and Henry Kotowski (drums), who in 1968 were apparently banned for playing "Jumpin' Jack Flash" by the Rolling Stones. Lakomy next went to The Alexanders, and various other bands. His own early albums cover the whole range of rock and pop musics, all proving that he was an explorer looking for his own niche. Very little of his early material (that we've encountered) is of any notable interest, however.

His synth debut DAS GEHEIME LEBEN was quite plagiaristic of the Tangerine Dream sound, but with some unique touches, not least the use of chunky analogue sounds. Subsequent albums followed a similar formula, though ZEITEN, recorded together with another rock musician turned synthesist: Rainer Oleak, was much more experimental. After some unreleased material appearing on the Erdenklang "Looking East" series, Reinhard resurfaced with a new album for the label, which presented a more varied digital based concoction.
